DUNKELBUNT Balkan Beats maestro swingin’ by Maui ::

“One of Europe’s great proponents of balkan dub” – The Age (Melbourne)

“dunkelbunt made the crossover from electronics to Balkan sounds“ – New York Times (New York)

“Balkan goodness from Vienna” – Cape Time (Cape Town)

Very excited to be co-creating the Balkan/Electro-Swing/Gypsy-Tronica scene for the first known time in Hawaiian islands….Mr. DUNKELBUNT from Vienna, Austria!

[Dunkelbunt] has built a reputation alongside Shantel, Balkan Beat Box and Parov Stelar as one of the worlds leading DJ’s and most important producers of Balkan Beats & Electro Swing.

He has been touring North America since 2006 and has played a large role in popularizing Electro Swing and Balkan Beats. Through his many shows all over the US and Canada, from  coast to coast his unique sound has inspired a generation of producers, DJ’s and  concert promoters from the Global Bass scene.  His concerts in NYC at Nickodemus´ „Turntables on the Hudson“, The World Music Festival in Chicago, playing alongside Bassnectar & the Afrolicious Crew in San Francisco or his performance at „Earthdance Laytonville“ have left audiences agasp and craving more.

His tour schedule reads like an airport departure board: Tel Aviv, Sydney, Capetown, Moscow, Paris, NYC, Toronto, Berlin, London, Madrid, Sofia are just a few of the cities where he performs regularly.

LUMINARIES :: hip-hoppin’ first Hawaii tour!

LU_Threes_4_20_Threes_SmallFormed in Venice Beach California, and immersed in one of the most culturally diverse communities in LA, arises the heart driven, and service orientated Hip Hop emissaries of peace, the Luminaries. From the underground parties in “Dogtown” to the biggest festival stages on the west coast, the Luminaries have now taken their message international and crowds everywhere sing along the anthem, “Peace Worldwide Starts From Inside!”

The band sees their role as more than just musicians, but as catalysts for change. Each member having played the role of teacher, social worker, and activist, from working with homeless youth to defending the nation’s largest urban community garden, The South Central Farm. Luminaries embody the power of service, and do so of course through their inspirational live performances that leave audiences rejuvenated from the soul, down to the cellular level.

TEN :: rock supergroup side project @ Maui clubs!

The chemistry between T.E.N. was undeniable the first time these legendary musicians collaborated in the studio. During a one-day session on April 1st, 2012, T.E.N. recorded 5 songs. This also happened to be the first time this powerhouse trio ever played together and the synergy between the three musicians ROCKED. In honor of their one-year anniversary, T.E.N. is releasing an EP on April 1st, 2013 featuring the songs they recorded during that first studio session. Since that epic day, T.E.N. has been working on their new album to be released on 10-10 (October 10, 2013).
Individually, each musician is a reputable force to be reckoned with. Together, they are an unstoppable force of music….T.E.N. contains the power of 10. Their saga begins in the mid nineties, when Norwood and Eric met on a day off during a Fishbone tour in Albuquerque, NM. It was Superbowl Sunday. A day of drinking ended in a jam session with members of Fishbone and Eric McFadden laying down the rocK. Over time, Norwood & Eric built a friendship and started playing gigs together. In late 2011, the idea to create a band together sprung up and the duo decided to form a trio. Thomas Pridgen’s name was immediately mentioned. Thomas grew up in Oakland, where his path first crossed with Eric’s in 2005. Sharing a mutual respect for one another’s playing, the two musicians spoke about joining forces whenever they ran into each other. The chance finally came when Eric and Norwood approached Thomas to form the new power trio together. Having seen both players in action, it was without hesitation that Thomas accepted their offer and the supergroup, T.E.N., was formed.

Bio:  “New York City-based DJ/producer Nickodemus made a name for himself as the resident DJ of the long-running Turntables on the Hudson club night, and he also released numerous productions over the years, most notably the full-length album Endangered Species (2006). His musical style is wide-ranging, incorporating all styles of funky music, from house and Latin to Afro-beat and reggae. Born Nick DeSimone to a family of Sicilian heritage, he grew up on Long Island, and was turned on to music at a young age thanks to his family, which played lots of music in the house, namely Motown, disco, and Latin music. In the late ’80s he grew interested in hip-hop, regularly tuning into the radio show of DJ Red Alert. In 1990 he began DJing, inspired by the likes of Kid Capri and David Morales, and in 1998 he and his DJing partner, Mariano, founded Turntables on the Hudson, a weekly club night at Chelsea Piers on the west side of Manhattan abutting the Hudson River. The club night proved popular, lasting for over a decade, and spawned a trio of mix albums on Rhythm Love Records (Nickodemus & Mariano Present Turntables on the Hudson, Vol. 1, 1999; Vol. 2, 2000; Vol. 3, 2002) — as well as a fourth volume in 2003 on Giant Step Records.

Meanwhile, Nickodemus was establishing himself as a producer (sometimes in collaboration with either Osiris or Jay B), beginning with releases on Codek Records (Tribute to Baba, 1997; Listen to Your World, 1998; Universal Greetings, 1998; Dippin South, 1998) — and then followed by additional releases on Mush Records (A New Day, 1998; Earth, 1999) and Rhythm Love Records (The Rhythm Love EP, 1999; Desert Dancer, 2001). There were also subsequent releases on Giant Step Records (Free Souls, 2001; Mariposa, 2002) before Nickodemus found a more permanent home on Wonderwheel Records, releasing Cleopatra in New York Remix EP (2003), Funky in the Middle (2005), Give the Drummer Some (2005), Mi Swing Es Tropical (2008), and more. In 2006 Nickodemus released his full-length album debut, Endangered Species, on Eighteenth Street Lounge Music, also known as ESL, the label of Thievery Corporation; a remix collection, Endangered Species Remixed, followed in 2007.”    Jason Birchmeier, Rovi

Marty Dread :: Hawaii’s Reggae Ambassador

Thanks all to coming out for the show!  Marty was joined on the stage was none other than Lucas Nelson, son of Willie Nelson, Maui’s favorite celebrity!

The Throwdowns :: Maui’s superband!!!

Kimo Clark (bass), Erin Smith (vox), Ola Shaw (guitar) & Ian Hollingsworth (drums) are Maui’s champions of pop-rock, garnering rave reviews for their charismatic live show and engaging pop songs. They are the epitome of young, modern Hawai’i.

The Throwdowns spent 2009 & 2010 sharing the stage with A List bands like The Fray, Train, Panic at the Disco, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Steel Pulse and Matisyahu. They were nominated for two prestigious Na Hoku Hano Hano Awards (Hawaiian Grammy’s) and appeared on countless magazine & newspaper covers. After a great promotional run,The Throwdowns headed into the studio in October of 2010 to finish writing and to record their first full-length album.

“Legs Of Our Own”, the official debut of The Throwdowns & 13 songs of island rock-pop, is set to be released on August 6th 2011.  Fans who found the band’s debut EP, “Don’t Slow Down”, to be “instantly spinnable” will be hooked on the new record after the first listen. “Legs of Our Own” is loaded with singles, yet is a fully-formed, playable album. Lead off single “Stay HI” features Maui’s reggae ambassador Marty Dread, and is burning up on Hawaiian radio. A luscious ode to hot Hawaiian nights, “Stay HI” makes for signature reggae by The Throwdowns; stylishly sassy (a la Katy Perry & Gwen Stefani) with Passion Pit style production, mixed with homegrown reggae beats.  Other key tracks on the record include fan favorite “On the Radio”. Dance-pop with a killer hook, this song is about all-consuming, always fleeting summer love. “Heart Attack”, the band’s full-throttle ode to defeating pressure, encompasses the energy of the band’s notoriously explosive live performances. Floating like a butterfly, stinging like bee, “Swallow Me Whole” is the album closer and the big, stunning power ballad.

“We are extremely excited about this record, and can’t wait to get it out to our fans,” said The Throwdowns. “This album really reflects our sound, and the direction the band is headed. Very modern, danceable, edgy with a distinct Hawaiian flair.”

Bluetech :: returns to Maui for another epic set!!!

Bluetech December 2011

Bluetech December 2011

A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production, Bluetech’s love of melody and his exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenious producers today. His sound emerges from custom-built software instruments and synthesizers and blossoms into a unique blend of idm, downtempo and electro-infused dub that encompasses musical styles from different parts of the globe. Ripe with emotive vistas, reflective passages and evocative depth Bluetech’s lush digital sound palate reflects on nature’s expression of being. Bluetech’s latest album, “Love Songs To The Source” (Interchill Records, 2010), employs a more dub-wise and organic sound than on his previous releases. With the addition of live instrumentalists and vocalists, such as Dr. Israel, Katrina Blackstone, and Tina Malia, listeners are presented with an inviting point of departure into the warm, spacious realms of his signature mid and down-tempo electronica. In addition to “Love Songs To The Source,” Bluetech has four releases on the internationally acclaimed Aleph Zero Records, as well as releases on Somnia Sound, Waveform Records, Thoughtless Music and his own Native State imprint. Following the release of his legendary 2005 full-length “Sines and Singularities” the New York Times labeled Bluetech “one of the best ambient artists.” He has toured extensively throughout the United States, as well as performing in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, France, Denmark, Mexico, and Canada. ..
